What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is mainly a non-verbal treatment for people with emotional, cognitive, mental or physical difficulties.
Music plays an important role in our everyday lives. It can be exciting or calming, joyful or poignant, can stir memories and powerfully resonate with our feelings, helping us to express them and to communicate with others. (British Association for Music Therapy)
A client will be encouraged to create music using a variety of instruments. The therapist will respond to and support the client with words or music in a confidential environment. In this musical interaction, the therapist and the client share a musical experience, leading to the pursuit of therapeutic goals. These goals are determined by the client's needs.
